The protest in Iran began last 50 days ago to condemn violence against women. It was the most serious challenge to Iran’s government since the Isalamic Revolution of 1979. Women have been at the forefront of protests in Iran for the past 50 days. The unrest began on September 16, 2022 after the death of Mahsa Amini, who was detained by police in Tehran. It allegedly violated Iran’s strict rules that require women to wear the hijab, or headscarf, that covers their hair. According to the Human Rights Activities News Agency (HRANA) website, as of November 2, 298 people had been killed and more than 14,000 arrested in protests in 129 cities.

According to BBC Thai, “People in Iran told the BBC : The protests have brought about five major changes in everyday life in Iran”:

1. Take off hijab – The pictures of Iranian women refusing to wear a headscarf appeared a lot on social media.
2. Occupy walls and streets – A graffiti on the wall, another tool of protesters in Iran. This includes an image of a woman’s shoes kicking a cop.
3. The power of the new generation – The younger generation of Iranians, especially students, has played a role in this protest like never before.
4. The challenge that overcomes fear – Iranians challenge security forces on a scale never seen before.
5. Unity – This protest seems to bring together various sub-groups in Iranian society.
