Seeing as how I, Tucker Broe, have been Rowdy Ranger for two years in a row, I feel I could give the best account of what the experience is like.
Being our school mascot, Rowdy Ranger, is one of the funnest things I have done in my high school career (No matter how much I complain about it.) I get to fool around and be a hype man without anyone knowing it’s me. Although fooling around in that suit is not easy! The head is heavy, the shoulder pads are uncomfortable, and the suit is HOT! And when I say hot, I mean it is unbelievably hot, and the heat of the gym doesn’t help at all. Being Rowdy is harder in some other aspects, like having to be a constant hype man, and trying to simply figure out what to do or what is going on when you can barely see out of the slits cut out for eyes. You can’t talk much in the suit because it is impossible to hear anything outside of it even if you are shouting, so you have to make everything about movement. Big movements, doing everything big, and just being as extra as possible, even with the restrictions of the suit.
But when you are able to look out at all of those kids in the stands, all my friends, all my peers, all my mentors and staff from the eyes of that mascot head? You truly feel the pride and worth that comes with being an LR student, a feeling that I wish everyone in this school could experience.
