On January 30th, 2025, two teenage skaters and their mothers died along the 14 members after colliding with a U.S. Army helicopter including three soldiers not named at press time. The plane carried 60 passengers and three crew members. According to Washington D.C. fire chief, John Donnelly, “There were no survivors and efforts have been shifted to recovery.” Popular figure skaters, Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, won two titles at the world championships back in 1994.
