The new Secretary of Health, Robert F Kennedy, Jr., has proposed that Americans no longer be able to use SNAP benefits to purchase junk food. The 113-billion-dollar program SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) otherwise known as Food Stamps, provides 41.7 million Americans with assistance in purchasing food. Kennedy plans to ask congress to ban the purchasing of “junk food” such as chips, soda, and candy with food stamps. The program is run by the United States Department of Agriculture, and the ban is intended to have more fresh food bought by people with the stamps. Most states have already implemented laws of this nature, such as Vermont.
