Pope Francis was elected pope back in March 13th, 2013. Pope Francis died at age 88 from a stroke. He had public views on accepting everyone and having same sex marriage which is not common for a pope to believe in. Time magazine named him person of the year back in 2013 and included the most powerful people in the world by Forbes. He also became the first pope to make an Instagram account. He was prone to bronchitis due to a lung operation when he was younger and conditions only got worse with age. He died the day after Easter in the morning. 250,000 people attended his funeral including the president of the United States, Donald Trump. A new pope is to be chosen by the conclave. The conclave will begin May 7th and all 135 of the eligible cardinals will be sequestered in the Sistine Chapel until they choose a new pope.
