Lake Region Union High School had its annual Evening of Excellence night on May 28th and the editor of The Shallot, the most popular, most accurate newspaper in the NEK, felt that he deserved an award. Although the paper has struggled to hire qualified journalists in the past year, the editor believed that simply by exerting an outsized influence on all business conducted by the district.
The Shallot has had success with this tactic for receiving awards in the past as its recent Pulitzer campaign was funded by profit taken from the social media platform it owns, TikTok. The Shallot spent approximately the cost of a presidential pardon ($1,000,000 cash, raising $400,000 for the organization by hosting an event) to win several Pulitzers, but had an oversight when it came to this local award. As the Editor said “This isn’t the Academy Awards, I falsely believed that simply by providing such excellent news coverage, and facilitating the entire school district to optimize spending that this award would simply be given.” The editor went on to say that next year he would be sure to make significant contributions to a foundation that the presenters of the award are known to support, or to hire a family member of the person who presents the award to a consultant position within The Shallot and compensate them in a way that is just a bit beyond the actual value of having them in the position.
