The US government has been tightly tied to the conflicts of Israel and Palestine. Donald Trump has been negotiating peace deals between the two nations. The ceasefire agreement is currently in Phase 2 of a 20-step plan. Donald Trump stated that Hamas will disarm or “we will disarm them”. The Gaza-Israel ceasefire plan has been implemented and represents a small step towards peace. The conflict has continued for more than 2 years.
Bodies being handed over
Part of the agreement comes from hostages and detainees being released. At one point, after Gaza handed over a body, Israel stated it was not the body of a hostage, creating more tension. The bodies are being exchanged with each government, and reports are hard to determine whether they died in their opposition’s custody or were taken by troops. In exchange for this freed Israeli, Israel freed 2000 Palestinian hostages. While Israelis have received the many victims of war, Gaza is still waiting to receive most of their victims.
What has Trump done?
Donald Trump has helped make a 20 point plan. First, Gaza will be a terror-free zone away from any threat. Second, Gaza will be redeveloped for the people. Third, if both sides agree, all military operations toward each other will be suspended, and the war will be “over.” Fourth, within 72 hours of agreement, all hostages, alive and dead, will be returned. We are currently at the 4th point in the peace deal. The plan hopes to end a 2-year war conflict and genocide, citing each of the nations’ hate toward each other to end. Donald Trump is making it clear that ending the conflict is a priority of his.
What’s to Come?
The United Nations is now playing a key role in disarming both nations. Speeding up humanitarian relief is the UN’s top priority for those affected by recent events. The US has recently sent 200 troops to help stabilize the ceasefire phase. Donald Trump, meanwhile, has called these actions “first steps toward a strong, durable, and everlasting peace” on social media. Much of Gaza remains destroyed, with the UN noting that a famine is underway. The UN also noted that the Gaza conflict has resulted in what they describe as genocide by Israel. Concerns persist about missing hostages who have not yet been found. While agreements have begun, Trump’s 20-point plan is still in progress, with some steps yet to be fully defined. Construction for 3,100 homes is planned by Israel towards helping with humanitarian relief. Towards support the UN has set aside 11 million dollars for relief.
