Songkran, also known as the Thai New Year, is one of the most widely celebrated festivals in Thailand. It takes place annually from the 13th to the 15th of April and is marked by a number of traditional customs and rituals. One of the most notable features of Songkran is the water festival, in which people splash water on each other as a way of cleansing and purification. People take to the streets armed with water guns and buckets of water to soak passersby.
