Transitioning from middle school to high school sports its a huge change. Most start out on junior varsity, but some are so good that they can make it to varsity. That’s what Mya Patenaude did. A top scorer for the Lake Region Girls Varsity Soccer Team. When interviewing her about soccer and making varsity here’s what unfolded:
Thayer: What are your thoughts on making varsity as a freshman?
Mya: I just made the team and worked as hard as I can.
Thayer: Have there been any challenges joining the team?
Mya: Yeah, the juniors and seniors don’t really let you in as easily as friends, but you just got to hang out with them and they will let you in eventually.
Thayer: You’ve already made a huge impact. What are your thoughts on your success?
Mya: Just play and just hope for the best.
Thayer: Who do you look up to?
Mya: Honestly, I look up to all of them (the players). They’re really good role models for me, and yeah, they mentor me a lot.
Thayer: Who’s your biggest role model?
Mya: My mom
Thayer: What’s the biggest difference between middle school soccer and high school soccer?
Mya: The grades are one thing, and it’s very difficult. It’s a lot harder. It’s more competition.
