The second annual District Two Jazz Festival happened the 25th and 26th of October and many LR students as well as middle schoolers from all of OCSU were a part of it. This whirlwind festival which students auditioned for in the second week of school through a video audition process was a success. Last year it was only a one day festival and that had left some of the students that got an opportunity to be a part of it feeling that they didn’t put out their best work. This two day format though is one that everyone felt was very helpful.
The festival took place at Lamoille High School in Hyde Park, and the program feutred a Young Lions Ensamble which was made up of students below 6th grade who performed totally memorized music. The middle school chorus followed, with students Amelie Gentler and, Grace Faust. Then the middle school jazz band played an inspiring set capped off by Duke Ellington’s famous song Caravan. Howie Demaine played tuba, and Trenton Collins played tenor saxophone in this group. The high school jazz choir followed that with LR Students Fiona Bock, Xander Bradley, Tucker Broe, Lorelai Collins, Mia Lussier, and Amelia Zola. The finale for the night of Jazz was the High School Jazz Band which had LR band members Owen Roberts, playing trumpet, and Noah Blanco on Guitar. If you want to see these young musicians in action all of the high school ones will be playing at the Orleans Municipal Building at 7 PM on Friday November 8th
