The new Superman movie, directed by James Gunn, was a fresh take on the classic superhero. The story forgoes the classic origin and instead directs towards an opening title crawl most similar to Star Wars. The audience is familiar with the regular origin story, so cutting it out gets us closer to the conflict. We open the story with Superman on the day he lost his first battle, but the movie refuses to give any emotion on how he feels about this. I do feel that for the first 30 minutes it’s quite mediocre, but after you get past the fluff, the movie warms up. The Main antagonist, Lex Luthor, is such a good villain in this story, and guilt is playing him so well. In every scene we see, he believes in every way that he is better than Superman. He plays the role well and hates superman not only he thinks he is superiorl. Unlike the version directed by Zak Snyder, the world is very similar to the comic versions of Superman. This movie introduces the new DC Universe and does a pretty good job with it. James Gunn does an outstanding job choreographing the action scenes, there will be scenes shooting close-up and the camera tight to the hero, and some of the scenes have shots going fast. One nitpick I have is that at the end, Superman is talking to the audience about how he is human; this is not a movie that needs this. Gunn, unlike Marvel Movies, doesn’t end with any post-credit scenes, because it can make the next director have limited choices for the next movie. All in all, Superman is a great watch for anyone who likes action or superhero movies.
