In advance of this year’s indoor track New England competition the LR indoor track team got new warm ups and uniforms that were all paid for by the LR athletics budget and designed by Ralph Lauren. No team clearly needed this more as LR indoor is the most important sport at LR and none of the basketball teams needed any new type of uniform despite having the same ones that they did in 1987.
The ten LR indoor track coaches all of whom receive health insurance and have offices at the school all impressed upon The Shallot the importance of these new uniforms. Through an administrative assistant the assistant to the middle distance running coach said “Without these uniforms we don’t stand a chance at New England’s.” While it has been noted that the meet isn’t just a fashion show there is a red carpet walk prior to the meet.
An area varsity basketball player expressed confusion about the new uniforms as they said that “We had to patch our floor and flatten the rim of the hoop before our most recent game.”Later in the player’s interview with The Shallot they said that the only reason the uniforms were holding together at all was because they had commissioned the parents to fix tears and holes with fishing line. Area Athletic director Flames Dentworth spoke to the matter as well saying “I am proud to announce these new uniforms and we might be able to get new basketball uniforms if they were only willing to do a little fundraising. The only reason those uniforms are falling apart is because they have no pride in them and refuse to take good enough care of them.”
It remains to be seen if outdoor track will get their track re surfaced for the 3rd time in five years this coming summer, but based on the results that are coming from that team it is clear to the school that they deserve that investment.
