OCSU has been trying to find ways to save money for years now and the newest solution involves a 2 month lead time minimum for all Purchase Orders. The district office will process all P.O.s for only two days a month and if a PO is needed with any urgency then the district will just send back an automated AI generated message that reads “The financial office of OCSU reminds you that this will not be processed for at least 6-9 business weeks. While we thank you for submitting this PO as OCSU is committed to delivering the best education possible and using all of the resources that the voters allocate, we want to remind you that any urgent spending should be done using a personal credit card and then you can save the receipt and be compensated for that purchase within 3 months.”
This change has come as financial services for the district are projected to cost $911,309 for FY 27 and comes just a year after the state mandated that the district pay approximately $200,000 for a new financial system that is more modern than the previous system.
Teachers and departments that don’t use their full budgets for a fiscal year have traditionally then had their budgets cut the following year. This is projected to accelerate by the BASICS team, Brownington Academy Super Intelligent Children Strategists, which specializes in modeling complex situations. As teachers will struggle to simply submit a PO that allows them to spend money that has already been allocated when they want to, they will then be less likely to spend all of their money and then can have their budgets reduced the following year.
The only bonus to this new policy is that the actual system to submit POs is extremely intuitive and has been reported to be the most easy to use financial software ever. While teachers have gotten used to the old system that was in place they now wish they had been all switched over years sooner. It was also noted by some teachers who spoke to The Shallot that the training given to teachers on the new system in the first week of school when all teachers are at LR wasn’t needed and could have been foregone as it is so easy to use the system.
It was reported at press time that because all POs are now being processed with the district’s proprietary AI software that there had been several hallucinations that resulted in central offices budget decreasing by 16.52% which caused the powers that be to have to shut down the software and go back to processing the POs manually but with the same amount of required lead time.
