Orleans Vt- Although there were several crashes this morning and many buses ran behind, OCSU insists that there really was no way to prevent these things. In a statement a spokesperson told one of the The Shallot’s 300 staff reporters, “These accidents are sad and it is too bad that so many buses were late as a result of the road conditions but there really was no way to prevent this.” Orleans Central Supervisory Union (OCSU) chose to not only keep school open as opposed to having a snow day, but also wouldn’t use a two hour delay to give the plow crews more time to clean off the roads it was reiterated that there really was no way to prevent this type of driving. It has been noted that while there are two built-in snow days in the calendar, using them would cause a disruption to the server farms that The Shallot owns and constitute the home of the popular short form video app Tik Tok. For an unknown reason all afterschool activities were cancelled in the afternoon even though the roads had been perfectly safe in the morning and it had fully stopped snowing by about 10:00 A.M. There was only a light dusting on the roads around 6:00 P.M.
It has been noted before that there are hundreds of drivers who went to school this morning and have only a couple years of driving experience at most and that while they often are driving cars that have issues, there really is no way to prevent the students from having their cars go off the road. Almost no students live on dirt roads either which often are at the end of plows routes and had thawed slightly from recent high temperatures in the 40s.
There also was a 18 wheeler that went off I-91 this morning before 7:30 A.M. near the Barton interchange and the truck wasn’t extracted from the median until approximately 6:30 P.M. local time. The Shallot independently verified the crash at 7:30, and was also on the scene around 3:00 when efforts were made with multiple large tow trucks to pull out the semi. In the end a crane was used to pick up the truck and trailer and deposit it on the bed of a lowboy trailer. When the semi went off the road a VTrans plow truck also went off the road in almost the same spot and these accidents caused the bridge section of the interchange that is crucial for international commerce to be closed all day.
