The office of the Superintendent in OCSU got a little bit more money the past two years so they could build a tiny house. In a line of the budget that is linked below on the fourth page, with category number 2320 there is an assessment for the office of the superintendent. That budgetary line went up from $360,514 to $826,814. The Glover Elementary Expert Kids(GEEKs), a new branch of the arm of The Shallot that is looking for waste fraud and abuse, by using 6th graders that have high math scores on the Star Math Assessment, figured out the smaller total is the salary, and insurance for the superintendent over a full fiscal year. The additional money can only be explained by the tiny house that was built for the superintendent, so that she could have an office that was easier to focus in. The estimate for the house was $466,300, and then it was decided that they needed an admin assistant to be located in the tiny house to coordinate between the people in the tiny house, and the central office staff on the outside. This necessary position is the reason why the proposed budget for FY 26 is $36,710.54 more. These statistics are again thanks to the GEEK team.
The Shallot was only able to find these things out because of its office being located right near these developments. This is an example of why it’s so important for the district, and our readers that we be located where we are. Without this proximity we would have had to pay for mileage to send writers to report on this story and the fact that all of this is happening at the COFEC means that it is very easy to transport the GEEK team to analyze the finances.
At press time the facilities director of OCSU had accessed the tiny home for ADA compliance and found that there were around 1 million dollars of remodeling that needed to be done so that the bathroom could be changed to be able to be accessed by a person who uses a wheelchair, also an elevator needs to be added and all of the doorways need new sills that are much flatter to the ground.
